The Bay City Bombers Mourn Mark D' Amato
March 8 2002
Mark was the best man to ever work for the Bay City Bombers. Never a complaint. Never an ego. Never playing power games. Never a problem. Always a team player. Always positive. When it was his time on camera or on the track he delivered his character with professional perfection. He hit the mark each time with just one take. In a business like roller derby this is rare, remarkably it has only happened to my organization once; Mark D'Amato.
When Mark called to say good buy to me, my partner David had just passed, culminating in the worst week in my entire life. Good buy friend. I'll miss you every day. The entire world of Roller Derby will miss you.

Our Beloved Redshirt...
Most of us will never get the chance to live out
our dreams...Mark, my friend, you were oh so lucky.
Mark you were the man people loved to hate, and I knew
you couldn't be happier. For an athlete, a skater, a
personality that was "supposed" to be the most
disliked and dastardly villain in an entire
league...well, maybe you didn't do such a good job,
because you sure were so loved by your co-workers,
your friends, your teammates, your peers, and your
fans...and there were so many of them.
Mark, I interviewed you hundreds of times on
RollerJam. You insulted me, yelled at me, and
occasionally struck me...now I was living out my
dream. Right after each and every interview, you would
always skate up to me and quietly say, "how'd it go".
My answer was always the same...Perfect! You would
momentarily get out of character, give me that little
grin and say, "Good!"...You were always on.
You were the ultimate team player. You encouraged
the younger skaters with your advice and knowledge.
You'd lend your hand to those who needed it because
not only were you that kind of guy, but when it came
to the good of the show, you were always there. You
never questioned, rejected, or refused an angle that
you were asked to participate in...never a
complaint...team players like that are few and far
between.
Very few athletes achieve what we call "legend"
status in their profession. mark, you are a legend.
Your face, name and persona will never be forgotten.
As a friend and fan of yours, I will never forget you.
I thank you for always making me look good because you
were just that good.
God bless,
"Broadway"
