The fastest Man on 4 Wheeled
Skates!
Keeping it in the family!
Keeping
it in the family. That's exactly what Chris Martinez wants to do: continue
a family tradition of skating and derby mayhem. At sixteen, when teenagers are looking for ways to get away from their families,
this sixteen-year-old skating sensation, Chris is excited to follow in
Dad's,
Dave Martinez, tracks.
Young Chris has made a name for himself as the youngest skater in
the thirteen-year history of the Bay City Bombers, and the fastest man on 4
wheeled speed skates.
16 Year old draws higher salary than his
veteran Dad!
Not
surprising to teammates, Chris Martinez is one of the highest paid
skaters around. He even makes more money than good old Dad.
Building on this accomplishment is the fact that Chris is quickly
attracting the attention of league old-timers for his power, strength, and
talent. How does a young man like Chris deal with the pressures of
such recognition and the demands of the sport, while growing up as a typical
teenager? In his own words, "No problem!"
High School Star goes into
Professional Sports
A junior at Calvary Chapel Downey in the Los Angeles area, Chris Martinez
started skating with his family when he could balance on wheels at the age of
5. Since then, he's skated recreational with his Dad. Then this
past year, Chris became a paid professional.
Now
that he's skating as a TOP jammer, Chris trains 3 or 4 times each
week, with sessions last up to four hours each time.
The professional matches he's been in so far have mainly been in
the summer, so that he has plenty of time to pursue an array of
other sports, his main interest right now. This year he's been
testing himself on the mats, wrestling for his school in the
145-pound class. The strong six-footer took third
place in a recent tournament, and is looking forward now to the
coming baseball season. Out on the field Chris will
be playing right field or first base and working to hone his
respectable batting averse of 250. As busy as he is,
Chris never feels that skating gets in the way of his other
sports; it's all good for this multi-talented athlete!
